What are the benefits to DEMEC attendees, your institution and/or to the medical/healthcare community? |
Medical education is becoming a popular para-clinical career choice amongst early-career healthcare professionals. With abundant choices of postgraduate qualifications and opportunities for teaching fellowships and educational research, it is an attractive, expanding field of study and practice. Navigating a career within medical education however is difficult. This session is specifically aimed at those in the early stages of exploring a career in education, and will provide DEMEC attendees at the beginning of their careers with targeted support in reflecting on their previous experiences, building plans for career development, and networking with peers.
By actively nurturing early career educationalists, the healthcare community reaps numerous benefits by cultivating a pipeline of passionate and skilled education professionals. This, in turn, translates into improved educational experiences for students and, ultimately, better outcomes for patients. In 2020, the Academy of Medical Educators established the Developing Medical Educators’ Group (DMEG) as a dedicated section for early-career professionals. Our primary objective is to provide support and guidance to educators in their initial stages, and we have implemented various initiatives to achieve this goal, such as podcasts, social media engagement, and an annual conference.
Attendance at DEMEC will allow us to support educational development in a context where there is no explicit formal pathway. Collaboration between like-minded individuals at a national level is crucial. As members of DMEG, we can build further connections, share the experiences of our committee in their early education careers, and highlight existing resources for early career educators. |
If at all, how do you plan to involve early career researchers in your session? |
This session will be wholly devised by and aimed at early career education practitioners and researchers. |
