Emeritus professor Derek Gallen qualified as a GP but has been in full time medical education since 2003. He was the UK national director of the foundation programme since its inception and was also the postgraduate dean for wales. He was a founder of the academy of medical educators and went on to be its president. He was also the president of the Association for the study of medical education (ASME). He has written several books on education and management and his current research interests are in interprofessional education. He works for Medics Academy as their education lead.
