A15 (1): Evaluating GP specialty training in Wales – early results

Session objectives:

  • To hear trainer and trainee perspectives on the benefits and drawbacks of the 1 + 2 model of GP specialty training.
  • To consider the purpose of hospital placements within GP specialty training.
  • To learn about views on the ideal timing, length, and sequence of placements in GP training.

Session summary:
A new model of GP specialty training, providing 24-months in primary care, was introduced in Wales in August 2019. It aims to improve the preparation of doctors for general practice. We report interview and questionnaire data from GP trainers and trainees to show their responses to the changes so far.
