C15 (2): The Foundation Year 3 (FY3) Phenomenon – what’s going on?
- To explain the F3 phenomenon and its increased popularity over the past 10 years
- To understand the findings of a recently-undertaken scoping review on the F3 year
- To highlight the concerns raised by the review and what can be done to support post-graduate recruitment and retainment
More than half of UK doctors do not enter Core/Specialty training immediately following Foundation training. We present the results of our recent scoping review to explore the who, what, where, when and why of the “Foundation Year 3” and highlight post-graduate training programme issues that may be driving the phenomenon.
