D6: Integrated Academic Training (IAT): Fit for purpose in 2021?

Session objectives:

  • Explore the quality of clinical experience of academic trainees (including Foundation trainees) as assessed by GMC National Training Survey (NTS)
  • Explore the inclusivity and geographical distribution of clinical academic training programmes across the UK
  • Host a panel discussion to consider development of clinical academic training to improve accessibility, inclusivity and clinical experience

Session summary:
GMC NTS data highlights challenges regarding access and opportunity to CAT programmes for some doctors. CAT trainees appear to have poorer experience of some aspects within their clinical placements, particularly Foundation trainees. This session will explore improving inclusivity and consider whether the CAT model is fit for the future?
